I'm trying a new angle for my blogging: short (only a few events at a time), sweet (unless all I have to report is a bit sour), and frequent (probably wishful thinking).
Tuesdays are fun days for us because we have a nice mix of scheduled activities and free time. At nine we go to the women's Bible study at our church where Siena thoroughly enjoys playing with the other kids in her class, doing crafts, singing songs, and presumable learning about Jesus. Perfect. I get two hours of child-free (unless I'm holding Sofia, but how hard is that?) socially, intellectually and often emotionally stimulating time with other women who have "been there, done that" and I can learn from them, or they're "figuring it out" just like me! After the study we normally join Grammy and Sarah at In N Out for lunch before heading home for naps and a schedule-free afternoon. When Shiloh gets home I get another hour away when Sam and I go for a run. Tuesdays are fun.
Siena's hair is now long enough for a braid. And a long braid! And she likes them! We've arrived.
Last Tuesday we left early and walked to church. Siena walked the whole way on her own - carrying her purse and "Poppy" Bible.
Sofia is looking less and less newborn these days. As she should - she's almost four months old! She still has a fairly visible blue vein between her eyes and a slightly "sleepier" left eye, but she's all the cuter for them.
One of the things that Siena looks forward to is Sam painting her nails after our run. Last week we arrived at home to Siena sitting with toe separators still between her toes, a fresh coat of pink paint, a hair dryer on the counter, and a daddy who had proudly taught his daughter the word "pedicure."
On Friday my parents and sister were coming to town but I had a few morning hours to fill before they got here. Mary to the rescue! She walked with me to Starbucks and back (where else would we go on a walk??) and then the babies lounged on a blanket together (holding hands!) while the bigger kids helped me "gardening".
When the Nicholsons arrived, Katie was in charge of holding the baby while Grandpa and I built a frame for my new veggie garden. Last year's tomatoes didn't like living in pots.
When Grandma wasn't cleaning out my ponds and re-potting lilies for me, she was making Sofia smile.
Like clockwork, the mosquitoes came out about 4:00 and were in attack mode. Usually they ignore the baby and go straight for me, but this time they weren't picky. This is not a live mosquito. This is proof that I am capable of protecting my baby.
Here's Grandpa hard at work, almost ready to call it a day and find refuge inside.
And finally, we're up to Saturday. Sam and I ran in the Davis Lucky 7 mile race. It was our first "long" run and it went really well! Shiloh drove around with the girls to different points along the course to play paparazzi and to cheer us on. We had tired legs and happy hearts when we were done.
Mile 2.
Mile 4.
Mile 5.
Mile 6.
Siena patronizing some runners that she called "slow."
Done!
After the race, it was off to the Farmer's Market for PIG DAY!
We ran into the Ludwicks at the park and Siena and Tannyr wandered around looking at animals together.
Shiloh and Taylor
Piglets!
The Three Little Pigs were there too. Interestingly, none of the children really wanted to go near them. Here Siena is looking on with trepidation.
Squishy baby. I love that smile.
It was a beautiful day, so I took the girls outside in the afternoon to take some pictures. Siena wanted to bring out her baby dolls and take pictures of them too.
Voila.
A fun package arrived in the mail - a sweater for Siena knit by Laura! It is SO cute. Siena swaggered around the house for a good hour after putting it on.
Siena likes to read. She's learned a lot about reading from her daddy.
Maybe "short" was optimistic.
