Everybody loves Siena. Her parents love her. Her grandparents love her. Her aunts, uncles, cousins, friends... they ALL love her. Guess who else loves Siena? SIENA loves Siena. I was using a mirror to position her hat without covering up her eyes after I'd put her in the bjorn and THIS happened...

Yoga Baby
Siena had her official 4 month check up on Tuesday and we discovered a few interesting things:
1) She has a fungus growing in the moist folds of her drooly neck. Anti-fungal powder now must be applied twice daily.
2) She needs to spend more time on the yoga mat because she sucked on the table when the doctor wanted to check out her tummy time muscles.
3) She doesn't like vaccinations, even if they're good for her. (not really a NEW discovery)
4) She only weighed 15 lbs 10 oz, so she has either been dieting for the last week, recently pooped, or there is a miscalibration in one of the scales. All but option 1 are very possible.
5) Still no sign of heart murmur! Her cardiology appointment will be in late March or early April and we'll get a more accurate read on her holy (or not so holy) heart.
6) Dr. Chen is pregnant! Which means we'll have to switch to a new pediatrician, at least for awhile. (After her 6 month appointment, that is. She's not THAT pregnant.)
7) Siena needs to start taking a vitamin D supplement. Apparently breast milk just doesn't cut it, and this rain is keeping the sun from doing its job.
8) Despite her lack of tummy time skillz, Dr. Chen still says that Siena has good "muscle tone." I didn't realize she had any!
Overall it was a good visit to the doctor, but as nice as it is over there at Kaiser, we prefer not to have to go. Siena likes doing other things much better, like hiking (or being the weight that mommy bears on the hike), meeting new friends who were induced by hiking, watching daddy coach basketball, sleeping in all by herself 'til around 9:30 while mommy gets things done, being passed around at Bible study and WOW, going to birthday parties and weddings, taking baths (how did that fungus grow?) and the list goes on...
On Monday we went for a hike along the Stebbins Cold Canyon trail loop above Lake Berryessa with the Ganyos, the Jarvi, Carie and Jeremy. Oh, and Star, despite the signage.
The first half of the hike was a LOT of uphill. Our Sergeant at Arms (JJ) and Star led the way, while our 4-day-overdue mommy brought up the caboose... understandably!
Our lunch stop had a beautiful view of the lake and we were happy for a break before heading back down. Not sure what happened to Hayden in this picture... perhaps he was eclipsed by his newest sister? :)
Siena had a slight mishap at lunchtime and we had to do a quick outfit replacement on a rock... in the middle of the path. Oh the joys.
Good thing she's so cute. It's hard not to want to keep her when she looks so sweet in her sun cover (hooter hider a la sam) and sucking on her Bjorn strap.

This is what happens when you go on a 5 mile hike 4 days after you're due: Elena Jane Ganyo was born the following day around 3:30 p.m. She weighed 8lbs 9 oz, was 21 inches, and had a full head of hair! She looks a wee bit like daddy Ganyo.
As mentioned, Siena likes to watch Shiloh coach. Sometimes Shiloh has to have a talk with the ref when one of his players gets shoved (albeit deserved because of his player's smack talk) and the offender only gets an intentional foul (with no free throws?).
She's so proud of her daddy!
Here's the Bible study bunch that gets to put up with Siena's squealing every week, while we try to study Philippians. They're nice. They don't mind.
And they're goofy.
On your birthday you get to choose what you want to eat. Poppy chose gnocchi, meatballs, and shrimp. Good choice poppy.
Lest Zeke get all of his mommy's attention, Luke performs tricks on his carpet surfboard to keep her entertained.
It's hard to fit 59 candles in a banana split.
Siena spent her first time in bona fide "child care" at Ashley (Latimer) Drummond's wedding on the 17th. She seemed to like it because she was watched by some professionals - Dave and Shirley Bostic, who have cared for over 97 foster children! Meanwhile, Shiloh and I got to watch a very proud father march his beautiful bride down the aisle at the Kohl Mansion in Burlingame. (Ashley was my dorm friend freshman year and roommate the following.)
Ross is a lucky guy!
Too bad Sarah wasn't here. The smooch is her favorite part.
We spent the night in Atherton after the wedding and played a multiple-extension game of Carcassonne with Mom, Dad, Andy, and Brooke that lasted nearly 5 hours while Siena snoozed in Katie's lap. Shiloh won the game. What's new?
Her daddy must be a baker. (Hot buns.)

Sticking to his Italian roots (great-grandpa, Salvatore Sorbello, was a pruner by trade), Shiloh and I planted our first tree - a fantasia (free stone) nectarine!

16 Pounds
I haven't seen the movie "Seven Pounds" or really have any clue about its premise, but I do spend an awful lot of time with my chubby little "Sixteen Pounds". Two days ago, Siena turned 4 months old (technically, not gestationally... still a runty little 3-monther if she'd been on time) and so we took the usual jaunt down to Mother and Baby Source to use their hospital grade scale. I had to wander the store for awhile because there was a mommy-baby class of some sort going on in the back room, and I came away with two 20% off long-sleeve onesies, thanks to Grammy's gift card. (They're a pretty periwinkle and a deep red - hopefully good for both genders in case a little boy comes our way someday. Keep your fingers crossed.)
After stripping down, Siena weighed in at 15 lbs, 14 oz! With clothes on, that mean's I pretty much lug around 16 pounds every day. (Now why am I not any stronger??) I haven't measured her height yet, but she has her 4 month appoinment on the 20th (ick, with more shots) and I'll find out then.

It's Their World, We Just Live in It
Not much has changed for us in the last week, but the Armstrongs sure have had an eventful week. On the morning of the 8th, baby Ezekiel Luther was born at Sutter-Davis and weighed in at 8 lbs 4 oz. Two days later we got to celebrate Luke's real birthday at the hospital with muffins made by Grammy and gifts galore for Mr. Luke. The very next day we celebrated Richie's 30th birthday with an ice cream cake (literally "pre"pared by Bethany before Zeke was born) and not-nearly-as-many presents (as Luke).
The melon has emerged - and he's cute! This baby takes after his daddy.
I was lucky to capture one of Zeke's awake moments, because like a good newborn, he's a sleep-aholic.
And then I stole him.
No cake for this boy (to avoid cavities, I believe) but mmm, put a candle on some zucchini muffins and you barely notice the difference!
Presents!
Luke is very cute and gentle with Siena... until he goes for a finger in the eyeball when no one is looking. :)
We spent most of Sunday afternoon lounging at the Jarvis abode, napping and watching football.
When we arrived, we found the Jarvi working in the garage on Star's new house.
Siena wore this TO their house, but exploded and had to come home in an outfit borrowed from baby Jarvis.
Outfit #2 with Katelyn at Bible study.
After Bible study it was off to celebrate with Richie.
A big 2 for the daddy of 2.
The evening entertainment was Shiloh as a jungle gym for Luke.
Ni-Ni!
Luke learned JJ's name really quick and yelled it many times while playing catch.
Jen is getting ready for her baby girl to arrive in April!
