Weekend in Atherton

Friday morning at 6:45, Poppy picked Siena and I up so we could catch the 7:15 train to San Jose. It was still a little chilly outside, so Siena donned a cute-as-a-button bear suit borrowed from her cousin Luke.

Siena spent most of her first train experience sleeping - I think she was overwhelmed with excitement.

In Atherton, Siena finally got to meet Uncle T - or "Tuncle." She really liked him; we could tell.

We think he liked her, too.

The Garners came over for dinner and "bones" (Mexican Train with Dominos).

Siena also had her first experience with the Nicholson family dog, Copper. Copper was very interested in Siena and licked her every chance she got.

Poor Copper was feeling attention deprived, so Shiloh gave her a little love. (He also apparently let her in the bed with him and Siena while I was in the shower.)

Daddy love.

Auntie Katie (or Kauntie?) really loves her niece. She was happy to hold her at any chance she got - which was often, so that mommy could relish having two hands for a while.

Siena is one of the cutest babies in town, thanks in large part to her Aunt Bethany who kicks down outfits like the bear suit and this "snoopy baby" sleeper that was probably enjoyed by Joseppe.

Grandpa also loves baby, and baby loves watching soccer with grandpa.

Georgia came over on Saturday to meet Siena and got her baby fix. She's a natural baby lover.

The Hooter Hider, also on loan from Bethany, comes in very handy when Siena is hungry in public, as most people aren't as excited about the milk-producers as Siena is. Those who are excited about them shouldn't be looking anyway.

After church on Saturday night, we traipsed off to Max's Restaurant for a tasty dinner. We tried to get the free chocolate cake that comes when the waiter doesn't ask how your food is within 4 minutes of serving it, but we felt bad calling him on it. Oh well. Next time.

Siena slept through most of dinner, but started getting a bit hungry toward the end. We didn't have a pacifier along, so Shiloh stepped in to do the job.

Pacification in action.

And now we're back for another exciting week in Davis! Monday morning "tummy time" turned out poorly. Siena will never be able to hold her head up. ;)

Shiloh's big trial resumes tomorrow. Read about it here.

Doctors and Lawyers

Siena's first cousin once removed Kristen and second cousin Alexander came to visit. Alexander found lots of things to play with, including this fireplace broom. We definitely haven't "baby-proofed" our house yet. But Siena is still kind of slug-like (in a cute way, of course), so we have some time...

Wednesday, Sam and Siena took a trip to see Dr. Rivera in Roseville. They spent about half an hour attaching and reattaching probes to Siena's chest, arms, and legs for an EKG. She kept flailing and kicking them off because she was hungry. Dr. Rivera had good things to say about Siena's heart:

  • everyone starts with a hole between the top two chambers (but most close by now)
  • the two holes between the pumping (bottom) chambers are really small
  • the sound was different (better) than he expected - a sort of muffled sound
  • 50% chance all holes close within 2 years
  • another EKG will be taken in 6 months
  • an echocardiogram will be done to confirm the holes have closed once we can't hear them anymore

Even if the holes don't close all the way, the main concern would be possible infection, but Dr. Rivera said it probably wouldn't keep her from activity, sports, etc.

In her car seat for a 40-minute drive to Roseville. She was a good baby.

Siena weighed in at 8 lbs 9.8 oz - but she was wearing her onesie and diaper, so she's probably a little over 8 pounds now.

She lounged on the table for awhile after the appointment.

Thursday, Sam and Siena came to work with me in Marysville... the ladies (and my boss, Steve) got lots of snuggle time as Sam watched some of the trial I'm doing.
Here are some shots of Siena as she kicked it old skool at/on his desk...

Watch before you sit!

We were advised as we walked out of the ARC (Activities and Recreation Center at UCD) last week that babies (up to 18 years old!) were not allowed in the ARC. We didn't want to leave baby by herself at home or in the car, so we decided to smuggle her in...

Quick video of some volleyball action... we won.

Bath Time

Disclaimer: I am not as entertaining as Shiloh, so bear with me.

On Saturday, Evan and Lyndsey Hendrix were in town from Oregon to support Evan's parents who rode in Foxy's Fall Century bike race. It was great to catch up with them over pizza at Lamppost, watching UCD destroy Iona in football, and playing Settlers of Catan/watching Iron Man. We miss them in Davis!

Waiting for the Hendrix to arrive, we (Katelyn Warne, Carie Brueckner, Katie Reece and Natalie Smith...and Siena) had a girls' morning at the Farmer's Market...

We believe in color coordination...

Shiloh has longer arms... :)

We were ahead by so much that Charles needed something to keep him entertained. Shiloh suggested a declined push-up for each point of our score at each touchdown....

Sunday is my favorite day of the week because we get to connect with people at church who we don't always get to see during the week, and then our evenings are full of IM soccer and flag football. This Sunday was slightly more stressful than normal because, though Siena almost slept through the service at FBC, she saved the last few moment of the sermon to have a "blow out." Blow outs are often accompanied by loud grunts and foul odors which would have been enough to send me scooting out of the church, but on this particular day Siena's urine managed to escape and conveniently moisten my jeans so it looked like I had been the pants-wetter.

After church I skipped out on my women's flag football team practice to feed the babe, and then we went to Lamppost for lunch with Grammy and Auntie Sarah. The soccer game was an easy win, the other CoRec football team didn't show up, and the men's team lost by 6 points to their primary IM rivals, the "Dingos."

Monday started off a bit rocky because Siena had spent the whole night grunting, which made for not-so-great sleep. Finally whatever had been troubling her passed, literally. I got her fed and down for a nap just in time to drop her off at Grammy's and whisk off to the ARC with Natalie Smith for a quick work out. In the afternoon I felt ambitious and managed to make a Safeway run, bake banana bread muffins, and even vacuum the dirt my cleats had tracked in Sunday night! Julie DeJong dropped off taco salad for dinner (thanks Julie!) just in time for Shi, Nat and I to scarf it down before people arrived for Bible study. Bible study is my second favorite time of the week. I'm thankful for such great friends! After study, JJ held Siena and talked with Shiloh while I ran around getting things done and relishing my moments with two hands, and then Siena went straight in for a bedtime bath after the Jarvi left. She looked so cute in her bunny ears towel from Auntie Katie that I made Shiloh take some pictures.

The muffins. All gone already.

Siena read the recipe to me from her seat at (on) the table.

After Bible study people stay around to chat and eat dessert. Here JJ and Shiloh are playing a manly version of footsie.

Nat reps the Smiths and holds Siena.

Jen and Katie chatting on the couch...

Shortly after this photo Ben made Hayden cry...

Baby in the tub! Ringworm prevention... ;)

Hungry Siena got distracted by the towel touching her cheek.

Try again.

The end. Let's hope Shiloh wins his trial so he can go back to blogging for the family.
